Hawks get Saddiq Bey in the Warriors’ James Wiseman exchange.

The Detroit Pistons acquired centre James Wiseman from the Golden State Warriors in a multiteam transaction that also included the return of Gary Payton II from the Portland Trail Blazers and the trades of Saddiq Bey to the Atlanta Hawks, the teams said on Thursday.

Bey was acquired by the Hawks from the Warriors for five second-round choices.
The Warriors acquired forward Kevin Knox from the Pistons in a deal, and they sent Knox along with the five second-round picks to the Trail Blazers in exchange for Payton.

Following the transactions on Thursday, the Warriors will save $30 million in luxury tax between 2023 and 2024, or around $7 million this year.

The NBA trade deadline: who prevailed? Saddiq Bey, a forward, was reportedly also sent by the Pistons to Atlanta while Kevin Knox, a guard, was moved by the Hawks to the Warriors along with five second-round selections.

This season, Golden State boasts the NBA’s second-highest payroll, and a trio of its players—Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins—are projected to earn about $120 million collectively in 2019.
Draymond Green, a forward, also has a $27.5 million player option for the 2023–2024 season.

Wiseman hasn’t been in Steve Kerr’s rotation, and there have been questions about whether he’ll still be a good long-term fit for the Warriors.

The Warriors’ worst record in the NBA (15-50) in the 2019–20 season led to Wiseman’s selection with the No. 2 overall pick in 2020 to San Francisco.
But the Memphis product’s tenure at Golden State was cut short by injury and scheme mismatch.

Wiseman sustained a torn meniscus during his rookie season, which ultimately prevented him from participating in the whole 2021–22 NBA season.
