Barcelona vs. Intercity score, stats, and highlights | Copa del Rey 2022-23. Watch now
Wednesday’s Copa del Rey matchup between Barcelona and CF Intercity required extra time in order for Barcelona to advance. In those final few minutes, Intercity puffed and puffled in vain. What a soccer match! An outstanding second half! Barcelona barely makes it, but Intercity deserves enormous praise—what an effort! Did anyone anticipate that after Ronald Arajo’s goal in the third minute?
Although Intercity came within a whisker of tying the score at 1-0 down against the flow of play, the Uruguayan defender was forced to clear off the line after Aaron Pián’s breakthrough on goal, Barça should have been more than a goal ahead at halftime.
But the brilliance of this game arrived in the second half.
Intercity bravely made the decision to square off against their more illustrious rivals and
When playing a team from the third division of Spanish soccer, the 31-time champions had leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 when Oriol Soldevila, a former youth player for Barca, responded with an incredible hat-trick.
Since Kylian Mbappe in February 2021, Soldevila, 21, became the first player to score three goals against Barcelona in a single match.
However, Soldevila’s valour was insufficient to defeat his previous club. Barcelona, playing without some of its regular starters, scored goals through Ronald Arajo in the fourth minute, Ousmane Dembélé in the 66th, and Raphinha in the 77th to defeat Intercity in the Copa.
In the 59th, 74th, and 86th minutes, Solde scored.
Arajo remarked, “We know it’s not easy, but the Copa is like this.
“It’s crucial that we learn from it and make the appropriate adjustments.”
The game was played just after Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski’s three-game suspension from the Spanish league was maintained by Spain’s administrative court for sports, keeping him out of the league match against Atlético Madrid on Sunday.
For the Copa encounter against Intercity, he was not selected for the team.
A court of disputes lifted the suspension following Barcelona’s appeal.
The Espanyol team afterwards appealed the outcome of the derby, claiming it was harmed by the surprise decision by the Madrid court to temporarily lift the suspension. The Poland striker had been permitted to play in the league match last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Espanyol.
Due to their participation in the Spanish Super Cup, which will start next week, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, and Real Betis had not played prior to this round.
Tuesday saw Madrid defeat fourth-tier club Cacereo 1-0.
